Dr. Donald R. McCreary

Dr. McCreary is a Senior Research Psychologist and Leader of the Resilience Group at Defence R&D in Toronto, as well as an Adjunct Professor of Psychology at both York University, Toronto and Brock University, St. Catharines.  He did his undergraduate work at McGill University and earned his doctorate in Social Psychology at England’s University of Kent in Canterbury in 1989.

 

Before joining Defence R&D Canada in 2001, Dr. McCreary was a psychology professor at the University of Guelph and St. Francis Xavier University, a research scientist in Brock University’s Psychology Department and a research scientist in the Clinical Research and Development Program at the Regina Health District.  He is a fellow of the American Psychological Association.

 

Dr. McCreary has three general areas of research interest:  Men’s Health, Social Psychology of Health, and Gender Roles and General Role Socialization.  His research on men’s health and men’s body image has reached an international audience.

 

He has published extensively in scientific literature and presented more than 100 papers around the world.  Dr. McCreary is one of a small handful of North American researchers studying men’s health. He was a member of the Board of Directors for the Toronto Men’s Health Network from 2001-2004.  It is because of this experience and focus that we invited Dr. McCreary to be our keynote speaker at this important conference.
